Hope Hospice was founded as a nonprofit hospice in 1984 by a dedicated group of community members. Hope Hospice enriches the community by providing exceptional compassionate care, focusing on the quality of life when it matters most.
When the Chief Executive reached out Hope Hospice had been in existence for more than 37 years and was one of only 15 nonprofit hospice organizations in the State of Texas. The Board had been discussing expansion – thinking geographically and/or through the development of additional physical space. They were questioning long-term revenue streams and the Chief Executive was reflecting on the most appropriate staffing structure to support fundraising and philanthropy. Cielo Strategy Group was charged with conducting a high-level review of the organization’s fund development and marketing efforts to identify strengths and areas of growth and to evaluate the return on investment for special events. Our deliverable was a written assessment to include recommendations and an outline for creating an organizational wide culture of philanthropy.
We conducted focus group discussions, met with board and staff members, conducted individual interviews and took a deep dive into their fundraising policies, practices, and tactics. Once the written assessment was complete and the Chief Executive had time to digest the recommendations, we were asked back to work with the board members to increase their knowledge base of the roles board members play in philanthropy and to work with the board and staff in creating a diversified and highly effective fundraising program. Providing strategy, coaching, and material development in the areas of annual fundraising, relationship management, board engagement, and planned giving were key to this partnership. Deliverables included: a three-year fundraising strategy, an annual fundraising plan, printed and recorded personal testimonies from families benefiting from Hope Hospice’s services, fundraising event sponsorship packet, board commitment form, fund development committee structure, and a year-end appeal postcard.
Hope Hospice doesn’t turn anyone who qualifies for service away, regardless of their ability to pay; and they believe no one should die alone. Offering children and adult grief programs, a veterans program, a cardiac care program, and providing low nurse-to-patient ratios, Hope Hospice is well respected in the community and puts the comfort of its patients first. Cielo Strategy Group values its partnership with an organization committed to people first.
