Weslaco Museum

The Weslaco Museum collects, preserves, exhibits, and promotes the history, cultural arts, and past traditions of Weslaco, Texas, and its surrounding region.

Cielo Strategy Group first met the Weslaco Museum through the Knapp Community Care Foundation’s (KCCF) nonprofit capacity building program. KCCF contracted with Cielo Strategy Group for our team to deliver a full organizational assessment for the Museum. The three month assessment process identified areas of strength and improvement through listening, learning, and data collection by our team. It included our recommendations for where Weslaco Museum could focus their efforts in order to become a stronger organization. KCCF then used the written organizational assessment for their grants committee to make funding decisions that invested in Weslaco Museum’s growth and sustainability.

With that grant funding, the Cielo Strategy team then worked hand-in-hand with the Museum’s newly appointed Executive Director to execute on the agreed upon recommendations. Our focus with the Weslaco Museum for the year-long partnership was developing a strong Board committee structure, equipping the Board with governance tools, and engaging in Board engagement training and support for a strong organizational foundation.

Our capacity building work included:

  • Educating Board members in their roles and responsibilities.
  • Building a strong Board committee structure and ensuring a successful launch and execution.
  • Reformatting and redesigning their current website for a better flow and user experience.
  • Researching, offering guidance, and implementing enhanced technology to integrate online donations, membership payments, and point of sale payments for Museum purchases.
  • Creating, writing, and project managing their first ever year end annual giving campaign.
  • Supporting their staff with strategies to increase museum memberships.
  • Guiding their staff on donor engagement and gratitude.

The Weslaco Museum is building a strong foundation for future sustainability, and we are excited to watch their growth.
